Tokyo’s New Magnet for Sports and Culture: Ariake Area
Ariake is the site of no fewer than six of the sporting facilities for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Several of these, namely Ariake Tennis Park, Ariake Urban Sports Park, Ariake Arena and Ariake Gymnastics Center, now form a flourishing nexus of sports and culture known collectively as the Ariake Legacy Area.
Ariake Garden, which held its grand opening in August 2020, is a large-scale, mixed-use facility boasting some 200 tenants, combining a shopping mall, hotel and spa with theaters and condominiums. This vast complex spans an area equivalent to 2.3 Tokyo Domes.
Two stations away on New Transit Yurikamome is Aomi Station. Alight here and you’ll find attractions popular with families and couples alike, including Diversity Tokyo Plaza and Team Lab Borderless. Travel two stops in the other direction from Ariake Station and you’ll reach Shijo-mae Station, where fresh seafood awaits you at the Toyosu Market.
For the shortest connection between the Tokyo Bay area and central Tokyo, take Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). This new transit service is expected to be in full-fledged operation in 2022 or shortly thereafter, bringing a new level of convenience to Ariake area.
