Yoyogi Area: Rich Green Spaces with the Convenience of Connections to the Heart of the Metropolis

Sitting between Shinjuku and Harajuku, Yoyogi area is blessed with convenient transportation. It’s also within easy walking distance of the two districts just mentioned, as well as Meiji-jingumae.
Yet Yoyogi is no concrete canyon. It is cheek-by-jowl with some of the most prominent green spaces in the heart of the city, including Yoyogi Park and Meiji Jingu (Meiji Shrine). With the convenience of a city-center location and the beauty of spacious, tree-filled parks, Yoyogi is a residential area of exceptional quality in Tokyo.

The facilities in Yoyogi Park are currently undergoing an upgrade. Newly opened facilities include an urban sports park with indoor and outdoor skateboard parks, a food hall with indoor and outdoor dining areas, and a health promotion studio for people of all age groups.

Exciting developments are in progress or recently completed. In the Yoyogi Station west exit area, plans call for construction of a 150m-tall high-rise consisting of 39 floors above ground and 3 below. This mixed-use development will include shopping and commercial facilities and a residential complex, and will feature a station-front plaza and pedestrian walkways. Work is underway to draft a district plan for the project.
In front of Meiji-jingumae Station, Tokyu Plaza Harajuku “Harakado” opened its doors in spring 2024. This major shopping development already seems assured of a place alongside the area’s most illustrious retail-therapy venues, such as Takeshita-dori, Laforet Harajuku and Tokyu Plaza Omotesando “Omokado”.
