Ikebukuro Station is one of Tokyo’s great commuter hubs. A total of eight train lines meets here, including JR, Tokyo Metro, Seibu and Tobu lines.

Attractions at the station’s east exit include SEIBU IKEBUKURO, PARCO and Sunshine City, famous for its floating penguin on the roof.

In 2019 Hareza Ikebukuro was one of the district’s new sights, complete with restaurants and a movie theater. Nearby,

Minami-ikebukuro Park, symbolized by its grassy lawn, is home to a café/restaurant that draws families with small children on the weekends.

Walk 15 minutes from the station to the environs of Higashi-Ikebukuro Station and you’ll find IKE SUNPARK. This park is also centered on a meadow of grass, and on weekends a farmers’ market takes place here. IKE SUNPARK serves as a disaster-response base, where a refuge, a heliport and relief supplies are all concentrated.

Crossing over to the west-exit side of Ikebukuro Station, we find Tobu Department Store, Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre and Rikkyo University. Stroll toward Kanamecho Station and residential neighborhoods spread out before you. This area is slated for redevelopment, with three mixed-use high-rise buildings, offering hotels, shopping and much more, expected to be completed by 2043.
