Takanawa Gateway Area: Gateway to a New Century of Fulfillment and Prosperity
Takanawa Gateway Station opened to great fanfare in March 2020. The first new station on Yamanote Line in 49 years is replete with spiffy new technology, including stores with AI automated payment and AI-driven guide robots. Large-scale development is currently in full swing around the station, aiming for completion of a new urban district in 2025.
Transportation access at Takanawa Gateway is second to none, and to leverage that advantage to maximum effect, Takanawa Gateway City is planned to emerge next to the station, aiming to produce a district that never stops changing. With total area of about 13 ha, Takanawa Gateway City is one of the largest development projects in central Tokyo. The project centers on three super-high-rise buildings, including offices, hotels and a residential complex with an international school, as well as five low-rise cultural and creative facilities. These are expected to open sometime in 2025. Moreover, ticket gates are going to be installed at the south entrance, around which a plaza and pedestrian deck are slated to be installed. A wide range of measures are on the drawing-board to tackle a number of social issues. Takanawa Gateway City adopts Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), an environmental rating system used worldwide.
