Despite its gaudy image, Roppongi is replete with art galleries and lush green space. It is a popular area with Tokyo’s foreign residents. Roppongi Hills, a mixed-use complex shared by sky-scraping observation decks, art galleries, movie theaters and a TV broadcasting center, and Tokyo Midtown, an assemblage of top-flight restaurants in a plethora of genres, are the two great landmarks that drive the popularity of Roppongi today.

Yet behind the bustle and glamor of glittering shopping malls and entertainment districts lies another Roppongi. Japanese gardens, each named for the baronial villas that prospered here from the Edo period onward, are another, more understated, attraction of Roppongi. You can feel the passing of the seasons in Mouri Garden. This is a spot to immerse yourself and leave the noise of the city behind.

Nogizaka area, which straddles Akasaka, Roppongi and Aoyama, is home to the new National Art Center. The verdant green of this district in the very heart of Tokyo makes Nogizaka a favorite with both locals and visitors. From Nogizaka Station, commuters can ride Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line to Omotesando Station in just 2 minutes, or Otemachi Station in about 11 minutes. With such superb access, commuting and outings are convenient and easy. In contrast to Akasaka and Roppongi, tall buildings are relatively few in Nogizaka, leaving parks and green spaces where you can enjoy the passing of the seasons to the hilt.

Nearby we find two redevelopment projects on the drawing-board that are sure to bring even greater comfort and peace of mind to the Roppongi residential market. The Nishiazabu Sanchome Northeast District redevelopment project is a super-high-rise complex of homes, offices, shops and a hotel, slated to rise 54 stories above ground with four floors underground. In the (tentatively named) Roppongi Gochome West District project, two high-rise buildings are scheduled to be built: one rising 327 m, boasting 66 stories above ground and eight below, and the other is a condominium tower stretching 288 m into the skyline, comprising 70 above-ground and five basement floors.
